‘VBM’: waarover gaat het?
‘Vrijheidsbeperkende maatregelen’ (VBM) zijn alle maatregelen die een beperking van de bewegingsvrijheid, van contact met de buitenwereld of van keuzevrijheid van een zorggebruiker inhouden. Niemand wordt graag in zijn vrijheid beperkt, en geen voorziening past graag vrijheidsbeperkende maatregelen toe. Het principieel uitgangspunt is dan ook ‘Nee, tenzij’: tenzij het in het belang van de cliënt zelf is, van andere cliënten of van de medewerkers.
Als vrijheidsbeperkende maatregelen toch toegepast worden, is het van het grootste belang voor alle betrokkenen dat het op een bewuste en correcte manier gebeurt.
Stafmedewerkers, directie, zorgverleners en andere collega’s op de werkvloer kunnen het best samen nadenken over het VBM-beleid. Het is een proces van bewustwording en bewustmaking, van kritische zelfreflectie en wellicht ook van veranderingen in je organisatie.
